The Best Performances the DCTX Staff Saw on Day 2 of the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament

DII/DIII Bracket Play MVP: West Rusk WR/S Kam Brown

We found out why Kam Brown has the nickname ‘Hollywood’: he turned in a cinematic performance at the State 7-on-7 Tournament.

Brown’s day drew multiple comparisons to the show the former Frisco Panther Creek star and Oregon wide receiver put on this time last year. He was far from an unknown heading into the tournament. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound prospect was a two-way First Team All-District performer as a sophomore and already held offers from SMU, Oklahoma State, Kansas, UTSA, and Tulsa. But he was the de facto breakout star of Division II and Division III bracket play.

Brown had three of the most impressive touchdown catches we saw all day in the quarterfinal against Axtell, as well as multiple pass breakups on third down that gave his team the ball back. He floated in mid-air to Moss multiple defenders. In the semifinal against Goldthwaite, he had a pick-six on the first defensive drive, then scored four receiving touchdowns. His value to West Rusk came into full focus when he collapsed to the turf with a cramp after the third score. After sitting out one drive, a West Rusk three-and-out, he returned to the game and promptly scored on a double-move to put the game out of reach.

Those cramps eventually caught up to Brown. After a first-half touchdown in the championship game against Ganado, the coaches decided to sit him out for the second half. By this point, Brown could barely walk, having played both ways for two straight days and leaving it all out on the field. Without Brown, West Rusk fell in the title game. But the loss did not diminish the day Brown had.

West Rusk quarterback Trig Pratt, a 2030 prospect only a couple of months removed from eighth-grade graduation, looked like a seasoned veteran on Friday. His connection with Brown will be one to watch in 2026.

Allen QB Ty Snell and WR Zach Williams
Nominated by Matt Stepp

Allen was the best-looking Division I team in pool play on Friday, thanks in large part to the passing duo of 2029 prospects Ty Snell and Zach Williams.

Snell, already holding 36 Division I offers ahead of his sophomore season, threw 17 touchdowns and zero interceptions over three games. In fact, he had more touchdown passes than incompletions on the entire day.

Williams had 1,421 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns as a freshman at Bishop Lynch, and his Allen debut did not disappoint. Williams started the day with the game-winning touchdown catch against Cy Fair and continued the dominant display throughout the day. Williams is an absolute burner who got open early and often, showing why he, too, has over 30 Division I offers ahead of his sophomore campaign.

Harker Heights QB Hudson Humble
Nominated by Carter Yates

It’s hard for Humble to shock us anymore. The rising senior at Harker Heights has 6,464 career passing yards with 74 touchdowns on a 78 percent completion rate. But his performance in Harker Heights’ 3-0 day was absurd.

In Game 1 against Gregory-Portland, Humble completed 21-of-23 passes for five touchdowns. Then, against El Paso Eastwood, he went 24-of-26 for seven touchdowns. He wrapped it all up with a 27-6 win over defending state champion DeSoto, throwing four touchdowns on a 20-of-25 completion rate. He showed complete command of the offense, even checking into two of those passing touchdowns to wide receiver Arshawn Spann based on a pre-snap look.

Argyle Liberty Christian ATH Cooper Witten
Nominated by Greg Powers

It’s been an interesting offseason for the Argyle Liberty Christian five-star. Witten’s father, legendary Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, left his post as the Warriors’ head coach to become the University of Oklahoma’s tight ends coach (Cooper is committed to the Sooners). Meanwhile, Cooper has fought through a nagging injury all offseason that limited his 7-on-7 play. But DCTX Director of Recruiting Greg Powers said Witten looked 100 percent in pool play on Friday. In a 36-6 win over Cedar Ridge, Witten had a pick-six, a receiving touchdown, and a pass breakup in the span of three drives.

Amarillo Palo Duro WR/OLB Kyron Brown
Nominated by Mallory Hartley

The new Longhorns’ commit put up a Texas-sized performance on Friday. Brown drew double teams all afternoon but still managed six touchdown receptions in three games. At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds with blazing 4.4 40-yard dash speed, Brown is one of the state’s most versatile athletes. He earned First Team All-District wide receiver (37 catches, 637 yards, 7 TDs) and Second Team All-District defensive end (6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 1 defensive TD) in 2025. He possesses elite top-end speed with a willingness to attack the ball in the air. Palo Duro went 2-1 on the day with two shutout victories over Tyler and North Forney, which is relatively unheard of in State 7-on-7.

Honorable Mention: The Woodlands QB Kaden Copelin

The Woodlands had a massive hole to fill this offseason with the graduation of TCU quarterback Jack Daulton. But the Highlanders look to be in good hands with new starter Kaden Copelin. In one start as Daulton’s backup during his sophomore year, Copelin completed 15-of-17 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns. He showed why the coaching staff has been so confident in him on Friday, leading The Woodlands to a 3-0 pool-play record with back-to-back 40-point performances. Coach Jim Rapp calls Copelin a student of the game and a hard worker in the weight room who made massive leaps over spring football. He flashed a rocket arm with multiple 40+ yard touchdowns against Laredo United, and the coaches say he also has excellent pocket presence with the athleticism to scramble if the play breaks down.

Copelin now looks to lead The Woodlands to a repeat performance as Division I State 7-on-7 Champions in bracket play on Saturday.
