Sherman ISD on Monday morning announced that head football coach Josh Aleman would be reassigned after leading the Bearcats football program for the past three seasons. Aleman, a Sherman alum posted a 8-21 record in his three seasons in charge.

Sources indicated that Aleman was informed of the decision the Friday before spring break and the football team was informed by athletic director Alan McDougal of the change in leadership early Monday morning. Expect the district to begin the search for Aleman’s replacement immediately with the timing of the decision by the district.

Sherman will be moving into a new on-campus football stadium in September after playing at Bearcat Stadium in downtown Sherman since 1940. The Bearcats got what many view as a favorable draw in realignment as they not only remained in Class 5A-Division I, but they also moved west into Region I in 3-5A Division I, into a district that most feel like they can contend for a playoff spot in.

Aleman, who has spent six seasons as a head coach in the area with stops at S&S Consolidated and Sherman, was hired by Sherman ISD in late May 2023. He led Sherman to a 2-7 mark a year ago, but the Bearcats were extremely competitive in several losses against the top tier teams in Frisco ISD.

The opening at Sherman now means both Sherman and arch-rival Denison are seeking head football coaches at this time after Denison athletic director/head football coach Brent Whitson left to become the athletic director in Celina ISD
