Huntsville 2028 QB Zarien “Zay” Adolphe (6'0, 190) is drawing college attention for his arm strength and physical, dual-threat ability.
Adolphe started the final four games of his freshman season, then carried that experience into a productive sophomore year under first-year head coach Todd Moebes, passing for 1,520 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 828 yards and eight more scores, earning 8-5A Division II Second-Team All-District honors.
“He was just a sophomore this season, even though he started the last four games at quarterback as a freshman,” Moebes said. “Just seeing him mature as a quarterback, but I mean, his maturity level competitively, as a leader and everything else, is way beyond his years.”
Moebes said Adolphe’s progress is driven by his preparation.
“He’s a tremendous kid,” Moebes said. “He’s extremely focused, loves the game of football. Everything in his daily work is how he can become a great leader, how he can become a great player. He’s a student of the game. He’s always in our coaches’ offices and around, trying to find ways that he can get better.”
Physically, Adolphe stood out when Moebes arrived in Huntsville late last spring. His arm strength was glaringly apparent from the start.
“It didn’t take us very long to see his arm talent,” Moebes said. “About the first couple of throws, just being able to see it come out of his hand. His arm strength was impressive for a kid who hadn’t even started his sophomore year yet.”
“As a freshman in the spring, to be on the left hash and throwing a 10- to 12-yard out to the wide side of the field and putting it on the numbers, on a line, was pretty impressive. I’m not sure how many freshmen I’ve seen do that.”
That early production and arm talent have drawn college interest. Adolphe holds early offers from UTSA and UTEP, both of which are recruiting him as a quarterback.
“He’s a student of the game,” Moebes said. “Everything he does is about getting better.”
