UIL REALIGNMENT: Most Intriguing 2A DII Storylines to Watch
Presented by:
Where Will District Five Be?: One of the bigger questions the past few alignments is which West Texas district gets to slide over to Region II in District 5-2A Division II. The likely bi-district pairing with District 6-2A Division II is an Abilene-based district. Generally, it’s either been the southern panhandle district (think Wellington) or the Permian Basin district (think Wink).
Celeste Straddles the Line: Celeste is a swing school that could go either direction due to their location just northeast of the Dallas. In recent years, the Blue Devils have bounced back and forth between Region II and Region II. Expect Celeste to be a swing school once again. The Blue Devils could land in District 8-2A Division II with the Texoma area schools or in District 9-2A Division II heading east with the Northeast Texas schools.
La Villa Heads Back to Division II: La Villa, who has won back-to-back District 16-2A Division I titles, drops down to Division II in this realignment. The Cardinals will move down to Division II where they’ll likely join 16-2A Division II, which was a four-team district in the last alignment after Bruni dropped 11-man football and decided to go the six-man football route.
