Round Rock McNeil head coach Scott Hermes is taking over at Leander Glenn High School, Leander ISD announced on Thursday.

Hermes takes over a Glenn program that has fallen on hard times, winning just six games in three years, bottoming out at 1-9 a year ago.

Hermes has experience in turning struggling programs around. When he took over at McNeil in 2020, the Mavericks had not made the playoffs since 2004. After a couple of rocky years early on, the Mavericks made the playoffs in 2023 and 2024 and fell just short of the playoffs a year ago with a 6-4 record. McNeil made the area round of the playoffs in 2023 finishing 7-5.

“I worked at Vandegrift for seven years under Drew Sanders," Hermes said. "I learned so much about culture and program building. I leaned on that experience at McNeil and that’s what I will try to bring to Glenn. Glenn is just down the road from my home. It’s a growing community and that intrigues me. I’ve been blown away every time I go by there with all the new home and business growth. There’s just a lot of potential.”

Aside from his six seasons leading the McNeil program and his seven seasons at Vandegrift, Hermes spent his first 11 seasons coaching at Sanger.

“I’ll miss the people at McNeil and Round Rock ISD," he said. "I worked with some amazing coaches and special athletes who were vital in the success we had."

This is the second head coaching opening in Round Rock ISD this offseason as Round Rock Stony Point is open after Craig Chesser’s retirement shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 season.
