Decatur (5-2, 4-0) at Springtown (9-0, 5-0)

The two top teams in 5-4A Division I will finally clash to decide the district title in a game that much of the state has been waiting on.

Decatur has won its four district games by an average margin of over 61 points per game, while Springtown has won their five district games by an average of over 48 points per game.

Decatur has had two weeks to get ready for this one as the Eagles are coming off their bye week. They blasted Fort Worth Western Hills, 70-7, in their last outing, racing out to a 49-0 halftime lead. RB’s Jake Milligan and Jamari Fletcher combined for five touchdowns on the ground.

Springtown pitched a shutout last week in their 62-0 win over Western Hills. The key for the Porcupines is QB Kaine Hill, who operates behind one of the best offensive line units in Region II.

One key I’m looking at is how these teams fared against their non-district slate because both teams front-loaded that schedule due to being in a weaker district. Springtown has a clear edge in that department. Another edge for SHS going into this game is Hill’s ability to take a game over and Springtown’s defense, which allows just over six points per game.

Those factors, combined with the game being in Springtown, makes me think the state-ranked Porcupines take home a district crown.

Stepp’s Pick: Springtown by 10
