Allen (7-0, 5-0) at Prosper (7-0, 5-0):
It’s the showdown we’ve all been waiting for in 6-6A as second-ranked Allen visits No. 7 Prosper in a game that will decide a district title and could have major implications for playoff seeding.
There were no signs of looking ahead last week as both teams dominated over-matched opponents with Allen rolling to a 56-7 win over Plano West and Prosper shutting out McKinney 59-0.
Allen’s offense has spread the ball around well as QB Jeremiah Daoud has tossed 16 touchdown passes and more importantly he’s taken care of the football throwing just two interceptions. Arizona WR commit Caleb Smith has been electric with six touchdown receptions and his speed makes him a problem in the return game.
Allen’s defense is a lot like the offense - not loaded with stars, but they are strong at all three levels. The Eagles have great team speed and are among the deepest teams in the state.
When it comes to Prosper, things start and end with the big uglies up front. PHS once again has an elite offensive line with Texas A&M commit Zaden Krempin, Texas Tech commit Bryce Gilmore and Duke commit Sean Stover leading that group. PHS also features USC DL commit Jake Johnson, so the trench play is clearly where Prosper makes their hay.
The biggest key for Prosper this year if they’ve got veteran skill talent to pair with that front play. QB Braden Imhoff has been electric with 1,900 yards passing and 19 touchdown passes in seven games. He’s got weapons with WR Lathan Latiolas, who averages nearly 25 yards per catch and has hauled in seven touchdowns, while RB Bryce Robinson has a dozen touchdown runs and averages over seven yards per carry.
Prosper’s not as deep as Allen, but they may have the edge when it just comes to pure front-line talent. This is going to likely be a total sell-out and a game of the week in the state type atmosphere. I’m giving the ever-so-slight edge to Allen in this rivalry, which has gone back and forth in recent years. I think the Allen defense is the edge in this one.
