Euless Trinity (3-0, 1-0) at Southlake Carroll (3-0, 1-0): The district title in 4-6A is, for all intents and purposes, getting decided this week as Southlake Carroll, the state’s No. 1 6A team, hosts No. 8 Euless Trinity. Both teams are coming off lopsided district opening wins last week, but Carroll’s 52-3 demolition of a good Byron Nelson team was pretty shocking with how easy the Dragons made it look. They had the game put away at halftime on the strength of a 35-point second quarter outburst buoyed by two touchdown connections from QB Angelo Renda (Pittsburgh commit) to Ohio State WR commit Brock Boyd. RB Brooks Biggers tallied two scoring runs and Davis Penn added a touchdown run, while the Carroll defense held the Bobcats to just 189 yards of total offense. Trinity was dominant in their own right last week as the Trojans rolled past an improved Keller Central squad 45-7. RB JT Harris appears to be back fully healthy from an early injury that limited him in the first two games as he ran for 107 yards and two scores, while Keondre Dixon and Zorian Palmore combined for 137 yards on the ground and two scores as well. This is a much-improved Trinity defense, maybe the best group they’ve had in several seasons, but Carroll’s offense is just a different animal; they have experience, talent and they are executing with lethal efficiency. Look for Trinity to try and shorten the game, keep Carroll on the sidelines and see if they can make it a game in the fourth. That sounds crazy to say in a top 10 matchup, but this Carroll team is that good. Stepp’s Pick: Southlake Carroll by 18

The Woodlands (3-0, 1-0) at Willis (2-1, 1-0): The 13-6A title has been decided in this game each of the last two season and both years it was upstart Willis taking down traditional powerhouse The Woodlands in absolute shootouts. This week’s showdown at Yaites Stadium is a little different as Willis is in a bit of a transition with an extremely young group across the board. One thing is certain though; Willis will have the best player on the field in this one in Texas commit Jermaine Bishop. After falling in Week 2 to a strong Klein Collins squad, the Wildkats opened up district play last week by cruising past Conroe Caney Creek 49-0.  Freshman QB Lincoln Frazier continues to make strides, but he’ll face his toughest test to date this week against a veteran secondary from The Woodlands that is loaded with experience and playmaking ability. Last week the state ranked Highlanders opened district play with a 45-14 drubbing of Conroe Grand Oaks as TCU QB commit Jack Daulton had a big night with three rushing scores and two scores through the air. Willis is very talented, but very young and that veteran experience pays off for the Highlanders with a statement win. Stepp’s Pick: The Woodlands by 16

Cibolo Steele (3-0) at Austin Westlake (2-1): It’s the best in San Antonio taking on one of the best in Austin. This will be a referendum of how this new look Cibolo Steele squad stacks up with a true elite power at the 6A level. A year ago, Steele hosted Westlake with a high-flying offensive attack and Westlake came into Lehnhoff Stadium and absolutely dominated the Knights, setting the early stage for Steele’s disappointing exit from the playoffs. The game also was a blow to the Alamo City, which has played second fiddle to the Austin area for a decade now at the 6A level. The 2025 version of the Knights is built like the vintage Steele teams of the Mike Jinks-era. They are a defense-first team and on offense they lean heavily on a running game anchored by Texas A&M RB commit Jonathan Hatton. Last week the Knights eased past a good San Antonio Brandeis squad, 42-22, as Hatton led the way with four rushing touchdowns as the Knights punted just once. After a disappointing season opening loss to Prosper, Westlake has gone on the road and rattled off two straight impressive wins, with last week’s 35-28 win over Humble Atascocita on the road being the most impressive. QB Rees Wise put together his best performance of the year thus far throwing for a pair of scores and rushing for the game winning score in the fourth quarter. The Chaparrals defense came up with a key fourth quarter turnover to seal the game. This game is back in Austin and the narrative remains the same, when any Austin powerhouse plays a San Antonio powerhouse, take the Austin team every time until we see consistency from the Alamo City. Stepp’s Pick: Austin Westlake by 15

Richmond Randle (3-0) at Fort Bend Marshall (2-0): Defending state champion Richmond Randle fell from the No. 1 spot in 5A-Division II this week, but it’s really no fault of their own as they’ve handled the teams in front of them with ease. The issue is the Lions strength of schedule hasn’t been great and they were surpassed by South Oak Cliff, which boasts wins over North Shore and Longview. Randle, at least in that matchup, got the most important win of all last December when they knocked SOC off in a classic state title tilt. Randle looks ready for a repeat run as last week they torched previously unbeaten Fort Bend Travis, 56-29, as star RB Landen Williams-Callis ran for 292 yards and six touchdowns to lead the way. Randle’s defense, which had been stellar early in the year, did get touched up a little bit, but the red zone defense was stout holding Travis to just field goals on multiple red zone trips. Fort Bend Marshall is off to a 2-0 start, but the Buffaloes have been anything but impressive early in the year as after struggling in the season opener against Friendswood. They had a sleepy 17-14 win last week over a good, but not vintage Crosby squad. If Marshall wants to hang around in this game, Texas A&M commit Kaeden Johnson and that speedy offense will have to be more consistent as Williams-Callis is just so tough to contain. The Buffs just haven’t displayed that type of explosive potential early in the year, so the nod here clearly goes to Randle. Stepp’s Pick: Richmond Randle by 21
