Stepp's 2A DII Region IV Picks: District Projections and Playoff Outlook

Somerville had a historic 2024 campaign, but the Yeguas may take a backseat to fast-growing Granger, which was the runner-up a year ago. These two are evenly matched, and it should be a classic when they get it on in district play. Burton had some struggles last year, but with 15 starters back the Panthers could easily play spoiler in a tough 13-2A Division II.

After an impressive run to the regional final a year ago, Junction is eyeing a regional title as it welcomes back 13 starters and a four-year starter under center. Brackettville’s first year under head coach Kody Yeager was a huge success, and the Tigers will be primed to challenge for the district crown after an area round appearance in 2024. After their first winning season in five years, La Pryor returns seven on both sides and will look to contend.

After coming within a touchdown of the state championship a year ago, Shiner looks loaded for a repeat run as just five seniors have graduated. The Comanches are used to playing with a target on their back, and there’s no question after their run a year ago, that target grew for 2025. After falling in the area playoffs, Falls City should be improved with seven back on both sides of the ball. One-win Pettus should be one of the state’s most improved teams as they bring back 20 starters.

After an impressive summer on the 7-on-7 circuit, Agua Dulce gets the edge in 16-2A DII with 13 starters back. La Villa went through a late coaching change, but the Cardinals are the chalky pick to win the district. Ben Bolt also has a new coach, while Woodsboro, with eight back on both sides, is plenty of steps ahead of Bruni for the last playoff slot.
