Katy (2-0) vs Katy Tompkins (2-0)

It’s a showdown in Katy to open district play in 19-6A as the two district favorites - Katy and Katy Tompkins - clash in a battle of Top 20 teams.

Katy closed out non-district play with a hard-fought win over state-ranked Humble Atascocita, 35-28. Mississippi State commit RB Seth Davis’ 57-yard touchdown run with just over a minute left in the game proved to be the difference for the Tigers. Davis ran for 187 yards and as pair of touchdowns, while senior QB Caleb Koger added 200 yards through the air and a pair of touchdown passes to give Katy plenty of balance.

Tompkins was plenty impressive in their own right as they rolled past Bridgeland, 38-14, as Caleb Komolafe and Chris Gilbert each ran for a pair of touchdowns to lead the Falcons.

This one will be an absolute slugfest. Tompkins ended Katy’s long run of domination in Katy ISD two years ago, but Katy ended up winning a state title that season. These two are evenly matched, but Katy is the team of record in KISD and they typically find ways to win these types of games.

Stepp’s Pick: Katy by 3
