Texas A&M defeated No. 13 Kentucky 20-13 on Saturday in overtime. The win snapped A&M's six-game losing streak to AP Top 25 opponents and was Jimbo Fisher's first signature win at Kyle Field. Here are three takeaways from the thrilling game.

Aggies able to contain Benny Snell Jr.

Coming into the game, the Aggies knew they would have to keep a keen eye on Wildcat feature back Benny Snell Jr, who had averaged 127.8 yards per game. The beefy defensive line, which has all three starters weighing over 300 pounds for the first time in program history, was able to bring Snell down before he was able to kick it into second gear. Snell finished the night with just 60 rushing yards, his lowest total this season.

The A&M fans were silenced in the second quarter, as Tyrel Dodson had to be helped off the field by trainers and wasn’t able to put weight on his right leg. Dodson came back on the next drive and was a huge factor throughout the entire game. Safety Donovan Wilson was also a huge factor in preventing Snell from moving the chains. Wilson was able to sniff out a lot of the run plays and bring the star running back to the ground. The leader on the defense finished the game with 12 total tackles.

A&M offense able to get it done when it counts

The A&M offense struggled to string together plays in order to move the chains in the first quarter of the game, amassing just 38 yards of total offense in the first quarter. As the game progressed, the Aggie offense continued to find their groove and leaned on their running game to move the ball down the field.

Running back Trayveon Williams, who struggled against tough Clemson and Alabama’s run defenses, got it going early and often against the usually stout Wildcat run game. Williams finished the game with 138 rushing yards, 72 receiving yards and a touchdown. The back also scored the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run in overtime.

Aggie pass defense shuts down QB Terry Wilson

The A&M pass rush dominated the Kentucky offensive line and was able to keep Kentucky quarterback Terry Wilson under pressure for the majority of the night. The Texas A&M defense tallied six sacks and held Wilson to just 108 passing yards and four rushing yards. Wilson scrambled to find downfield options. In most cases, there weren't any.

Led by Donovan Wilson, the maroon and white’s secondary, which came under some scrutiny after poor performances against Alabama and Clemson, were extremely tough in coverage. That gave Wilson little options down the field.

Looking ahead

The Aggies will now attempt to ride their momentum as they travel to South Carolina next Saturday. The Gamecocks also won in thrilling fashion today, downing Mizzou 37-35.
