Last year Texas A&M kicker commit Caden Davis walked off the field under the worst possible circumstances. He had just missed an extra point that ended Coppell's season in overtime.
2018 was already kind enough to offer Davis a chance at redemption, and he seized the opportunity.
With one second on the clock, Davis calmly nailed a 57-yard field goal to hand the Cowboys a thrilling 30-28 week one win over Sachse.
"Running out there I kinda just knew it was a chance to redeem myself after last season; the way it ended," Davis said. "I just looked at it as an opportunity.
I think every kicker dreams of that moment to be given the opportunity to kick a game winner. That was my first opportunity ever, and I'm glad it turned out the way it did."
"Last season the season ended with a missed PAT for me and all offseason that is just what is going through my head," Davis continued as the crowd chanted his name in the background of the interview.
"Running out on the field tonight that is just what was going through my head, this was just an opportunity for redemption."
Davis, who is considered to be the top kicker in the state in the Class of 2019, committed to Texas A&M last November.
Davis grew up a fan of the Aggies, so the decision-making process was not difficult for him, but he faced a bit of adversity with the recruiting process when Jimbo Fisher took over.
"At first it was a little bit shaky because I didn't know if they wanted to keep a 2019 kicker on, because of all of the recruits they have coming in," Davis explained. "But they ended up keeping me, and I have gotten to know all of the coaches really well, and the other commits. I'm really happy with the situation down there."
"I'm just excited to go into a winning program with how coach (Jimbo) Fisher has been changing things and how the program is going."
Davis plans to take his official visit to Texas A&M on December 7th.
As a junior in 2017, Davis was named the district Special Teams MVP and earned honorable mention all-state honors.
