Texas High School Hall of Fame announces 2018 ballot

Wednesday afternoon, the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame ballot for 2018 was announced.

Elected members of this year’s class will be voted on by a statewide committee comprised of sportswriters, high school coaches and members of the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame Board of Trustees.

This year’s class will be formally introduced during the 2017 UIL High School Football State Championship games inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

One player and two coaches will be selected for induction respectively from each decade. There will be nine total inductions as part of this year’s class.

Last year’s player class included Tommy Joe Crutcher (McKinney), Reggie McNeal (Lufkin), Dat Nguyen (Rockport), Lovie Smith (Big Sandy), Johnny Walker (Holmes). For the head coaches Steve Lineweaver (Euless Trinity) and Eddy Peach (Arlington Lamar) were inducted and NFL Hall of famer “Mean” Joe Greene (Temple Dunbar) highlighted the class.

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be Saturday April 7, 2018 in Waco, Texas.

Among this year’s player nominees are Pro Football Hall of Fame guard Gene Upshaw and All-Pro NFL guard Alan Faneca. Jonathan Gray (Aledo), Greg McElroy (South Lake Carroll) and Garrett Gilbert (Lake Travis) round out the most recent decade of nominees and Dennis Alexander of Daingerfield, T.J. Mills of Sealy and Bob Shelton of Kyle Hays are among this year’s coaching nominations.
