In celebration of 100 years of UIL Texas high school football, the UIL and Dave Campbell’s Texas Football have teamed up to honor the best, the brightest and the most unforgettable icons and legends in the sport’s illustrious history. With the help of some of the state’s foremost experts and historians, the UIL and DCTF will honor 100 of the greatest players to ever suit up in Texas.

Each week throughout the 2020 season, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football will announce 10 honorees on each list, an indelible honor to be known as one of the greatest in Texas high school football history. Fans will then have an opportunity to weigh in, voting for the player they think is the best of the best, to be named as a UIL 100 Fan’s Choice.

It all leads up to a celebration as big as Texas, celebrating the UIL’s 100 Players — and the Fan’s Choice Top 10 — at the UIL Texas high school football state championship games at AT&T Stadium in Arlington this December.

UIL 100 YEARS, 100 PLAYERS — WEEK 10

Refugio DB James Lott
An all-state defensive back in 1982, James Lott is actually best-known for being the state’s best high-jumper of all-time when he set the national record of 7-feet and 4 ¾ inches. Naturally that rare breed of athleticism translated to the gridiron where he was a three-year letter at Texas after helping lead Refugio to the 1982 3A state championship.

Bremond QB Roshauud Paul 
Roshauud Paul led Bremond to three consecutive state championships and finished his career with a perfect 47-0 record making him one of the winningest players in Texas high school football history and the winningest quarterback in the modern era. Paul finished with over 6,700 yards passing and 6,200 yards rushing with nearly 80 touchdowns for the Tigers.

Odessa Permian LB Britt Hager 
The All-State linebacker was named to the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Super Team after leading an explosive MOJO defensive unit to three consecutive district championships and a 1983 quarter-finals appearance his senior year.
 
FW Arlington Heights OL Blake Brockermeyer 
The 1991 All-American was a forced to be reckoned with in the trenches before continuing his career with the Texas Longhorns where he now resides in the Hall of Honor.

Dallas Roosevelt OL Richmond Webb  
An all-state pick, class president and salutatorian at Dallas Roosevelt, Webb an all-SWC pick in 1989 on the offensive line at Texas A&M. He went on to a twelve year NFL career, mostly with the Miami Dolphins, he was a seven-time Pro Bowl pick and a member of the 1990s All-Decade team.  
 
Lubbock Estacado DB Jerry Gray  
Gray, a three-sport letterman at Lubbock Estacado helped the Matadors to the state semi-finals in three straight seasons from 1978-1980. At Texas, he was a two-time All-American in 1983 and 1984 and was a first round draft pick. Gray spent nine years in the NFL and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection.  

Dallas Carter LB Jessie Armstead 
A two time all-state linebacker, Armstead anchored the defense on Dallas Carter’s 1988 5A state championship team. He was named SuperPrep National Player of the Year after recording 302 tackles, 18 sacks, 4 interceptions and 8 fumble recoveries his senior season
 
San Antonio Jefferson RB Kyle Rote 
Rote is first Texas athlete to earn all-state honors in both football and basketball, and remains the only one inducted by both the Texas High School Football and Basketball Halls of Fame. He returned a kickoff 97 yards for a late touchdown to beat Lufkin in the semifinals then ran for one score and passed for another in a 21-14 loss to Odessa in the championship game.

Highland Park QB Bobby Layne
One of Texas high school football's first passing dynamos, Layne lit up opposing secondaries and rewrote the record books through the air, leading the Scots to 31 victories from 1941-43 before a legendary career at Texas and in the professional ranks.

Paris WR Raymond Berry
Before he was a six-time All-Pro and a Pro Football Hall of Famer, Berry was a lesson in determination for the Wildcats, overcoming a condition that left one leg shorter than the other to crack his father's varsity team at Paris and lead them to a district title in 1949.
