It's one thing to have the measurables and ability to be a high-level recruit. It's an added bonus when that recruit comes from a program that does a lot of winning.
Winning is precisely what 2027 offensive lineman Brian Swanson has done at South Oak Cliff. The 6-foot-5, 308-pound brick wall has helped the Golden Bears to a 39-6 record and a state championship. His dominant performances when the lights have been brightest are one of the many reasons why Swanson is one of the most sought-after linemen in Texas.
Swanson has 36 offers at the moment has a particular interest in Arizona State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.
"Those have been the ones at the top," said Swanson, who recently took home OL MVP honors at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Dallas. "They’ve been more consistent, checking up on my mom and my family and stuff like that. Make sure I'm straight."
Swanson plans to take an official visit to Austin on June 12 with his teammate, defensive back Isaiah Udom. He also plans on getting up to Norman at some point to continue to build on their relationship, which goes back a long time.
"They hit me up every day, probably every two days," he said. "It's all good, especially Coach Emmett (Jones)." Jones is a former SOC head coach who is now the passing-game coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Sooners.
Swanson said Jones and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh tell him he's one of the top guys on their board and that they really want him on campus.
The same can be said for Texas A&M, which recently stopped by South Oak Cliff to check up on him and his teammates.
"They think I'm a great player," Swanson said. "They like the versatility about me."
That versatility is something that Aggies offensive line coach Adam Cushing likes in his linemen, and that's something that's intrigued Swanson about College Station.
"He plays freshmen," Swanson said of Cushing. "And they're versatile so you won't be just in one spot. You're going to move around."
One school to keep an eye on is SMU, which he'll take an OV to on June 5.
"I feels like down the street," Swanson said. "It feels like home really. Coach [Garin] Justice is a great coach. I like great coaches."
