Round Rock ISD has named Dustin Pleasant the new athletic director and head football coach at Round Rock Stony Point High School.

Pleasant, a 2001 graduate of Temple High School who also spent time as the offensive coordinator at Leander Rouse and Hutto, told Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that he’d dreamed of becoming the head coach of the nearby program for years. A firm believer, he described the timing of his hiring as part of God’s plan.

“Stony Point has always shown to have great athletes and great tradition,” Pleasant said. “I knew at some point that this job would come open. This was my No.1 job in the area. Stony Point is a place that is diverse. It is a place with high tradition and a great community.”

Pleasant will be just the third head coach in Stony Point history, which began varsity football in 2000. He replaces former head coach Craig Chessher, who retired last November after a 23-year run in which he compiled a 126-113 record. The Tigers made three straight state semifinal runs from 2008-11, but have not made the playoffs since posting a 7-4 record in 2019.

Pleasant most recently served as Hutto’s offensive coordinator, helping the Hippos to a 9-3 record and their first playoff victory since 2019. At Leander Rouse, Pleasant earned 2020 Central Texas Offensive Coach of the Year honors before developing quarterback Mason Shorb into the top passer in Class 5A DII.

“We’re an up-tempo offense, truly a multiple-spread offense,” Pleasant said. “We play fast and aggressively. We don’t wait to make decisions; we make decisions for people.”

But Pleasant’s life philosophy is far more important to him than offensive philosophy. His motto is ‘CTC,’ which stands for ‘Care, Trust, and Commitment,’ an acronym he learned from his mentor, former Pflugerville Connally and Round Rock McNeil coach Howard McMahan.

“I care more about what kind of character, discipline, and team mentality that they have before an ‘I’ person,” Pleasant said. “I am huge on care, trust, and commitment. I call that ‘CTC.’ That’s my core values.”

This will be Pleasant’s second stint as a head coach, the first coming at Fort Worth Carter-Riverside in the 2024 season. Pleasant said that experience at a program where 85% of the students were considered economically disadvantaged has better prepared him to help kids navigate life off the field.

“I’ve learned you never know what kids are going through at home,” Pleasant said. “It’s about relationships. I’m more prepared now. I know Round Rock ISD is very supportive in athletics and academics.”
