UIL REALIGNMENT: Most Intriguing 3A DII Storylines to Watch

Far West Texas Questions: There are a lot of questions in Region I in this realignment, especially in far West Texas where some of the travel could be on the extreme end. Odessa Compass, Alpine, Crane and Anthony made up a four-team district after Tornillo dropped football. Compass is off to Division I and no one is quite sure if Tornillo will play varsity football in 2026, so that just leaves three teams in Far West Texas. Who gets drawn out there? My best guess is Coahoma and Stanton, which are both just east of Midland.

Who Fills the Power Nexus in Region II? Gunter has won every Region II title since 2016 (10 straight if you are counting) and it had gotten to the point where the playoffs in Region II just weren’t worth following too closely because of the Tigers' dominance. Well things have changed in a major way in Region II with Gunter moving up to Division I. Who will be the teams that get put into this region that have a chance to take full advantage of this movement?

East Texas Dominance in Region III: Region III will likely be dominated by the 903 with three full East Texas districts expected, which will make up the majority of the region. One big surprise was Buffalo, which got aligned to East Texas in the last realignment. The Bison could get shifted two hours east or they could make a more southernly move into Region IV where they’ve been aligned in Region II.
