Anna assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Wilson Rigg has been named the new head coach at Azle High School, Azle ISD announced on Tuesday.
Rigg replaces Devon Dorris, who led his alma mater for 16 seasons before stepping down shortly after the end of the 2025 season. Dorris was later named the athletic director of Wichita Falls ISD.
Rigg has spent the last five seasons at Anna where he was part of the Coyotes 2023 Class 4A-Division I state championship squad. After moving up to Class 5A in 2024, Anna has continued to have success with back-to-back trips to the regional semifinals. Prior to his time in Anna, Rigg spent three seasons in the same assistant head coach/offensive coordinator role at Lubbock Coronado.
“We played Azle twice in the playoffs when I was on staff at Lubbock Coronado," Rigg said. "They had great support. I knew down the line if I could be part of something like that it would be a great thing. Azle has had a lot of success and stability. They’ve put out good players. It’s a one-horse town, which was attractive. It checks a lot of the boxes and for this to be my first head coaching job it’s really amazing."
Rigg, a native of Illinois, first came to Texas in 2017 where he spent two seasons coaching offensive line at Midland Lee. He played collegiately at Culver-Stockton College and spent time with the University of Missouri in the strength and conditioning program before starting his coaching career as a defensive line coach at Augustana College.
Rigg said during the interview process he knew this was a job for him.
“Once I met the administration and talked to people about Azle during the process, it really affirmed some of my early observations about the position," he said. "Azle has a great superintendent, athletic director and school board. They are all rowing the same direction and that’s all you can ask for."
Rigg has been part of Anna head coach Seth Parr’s staff for the past eight seasons and that experience has been invaluable.
“It’s been a great eight years with Coach Parr," Rigg said. "We have a great relationship. I’ve learned so much from him about football and putting a program together. He’s been a great sounding board when I have questions and I’ve been fortunate to be part of his staff. It’s been cool to have this chance to really learn what it takes to be a good football coach and athletic administrator from him. I can’t put a price on that experience and I’m excited to get started.”
