Edgewood ISD is searching for a new head coach in 2022 as San Antonio Memorial head coach Kemmie Lewis resigned his post on Monday to take over as the defensive coordinator at Class 6A San Antonio Harlan.
Lewis authored one of the state’s great stores as he led the Minutemen to just their second playoff appearance in school history in 2017, and their first district title with a 7-4 record. Memorial, which had won just one game in the previous two seasons combined, became the talk of the Alamo City and Lewis was named 2017 Class 5A Coach of the Year by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Since that magical season, the Minutemen have remained competitive but have been unable to recreate that 2017 magic. But fans are hopeful a drop to Class 4A-Division I may see a return to the playoffs. If that happens, though, it’ll be under a new head coach in 2022.
