Update on Arlington Lamar’s Brett Green
As many of you know, during the Bell 7-on-7 SQT on Saturday, Arlington Lamar’s Brett Green suffered a severe injury after a collision with his own teammate during their game against Southlake Carroll. Green, was unconscious for several hours after the injury and according to several reports, it was touch-and-go on if Green would make it through the night. Green, however surprised his doctors by making significant progress and by Sunday was alert and responsive to his nurses, coaches and family and by Monday was up walking around and requesting steak for dinner.
Green, faces a long road to full recovery and his family will face many medical expenses down the line. Arlington Lamar has set up a GoFundMe page to help with the expenses and if you are interested in helping out you can do so below:

Credit should go out to the quick actions of the Bell Athletic Training Staff, Arlington Lamar coaches and multiple parents from Southlake Carroll who stepped in and gave Green immediate care in the aftermath of the injury and may have saved the life of a young man.
Houston Madison makes a change
In a bit of a surprise move, Houston Madison parted ways with head coach Damian Judge after just one season at the helm. The Marlins, who were one of Houston’s top programs at one point, have fallen back to the pack since dropping to Class 5A and will be on their third head coach in the past three seasons.
Joslin returns to West Texas
Rockdale offensive assistant Chris Joslin on Tuesday morning was named the new head football coach and athletic director at Coahoma, marking his return to West Texas after two seasons in Rockdale. Joslin, who was an offensive assistant for the Tigers state title squad in 2017, was the longtime offensive coordinator at nearby Big Spring before leaving for Central Texas in 2016. Joslin takes over for Fred Dietz who resigned his post in late April after three years in Coahoma.
Tarance Lewis to Dallas A+ Academy
A+ Academy, a charter school in Dallas, turns to former North Crowley offensive coordinator Tarance Lewis for some stability as the Knights are on their third head coach in three seasons. Lewis, a Corsicana native, has head coaching experience as he was the head coach at Dallas Roosevelt a few years ago.
Paul Pewitt names Sulphur Springs defensive coordinator
Omaha Paul Pewitt didn’t need to look far for their next head coach, as it just went a few miles west naming Sulphur Springs defensive coordinator Triston Abron as its next head football coach/athletic director. Abron, who will be in his first head coaching job, replaces Ryan Gentry who departed after three seasons to take an assistant position at Magnolia High School.
Edinburg Vela benefits from move-in’s
Coach John Campbell’s squad already had the looks of being the Valley’s top Class 6A squad in 2018, with 13 returning starters from a 12-1 squad along with a talented 9-1 JV squad coming up hopes were high for a big season from the Sabercats. Now, there are a pair of talented transfers at key spots who could really make Vela dangerous in 2018 as RB Cristian Flores a 1,200 yard back moves in from Edinburg North to team with Aaron Alvarez who ran for nearly 900 yards and 18 touchdowns a year ago. Maybe the biggest question mark for Vela was at QB and that question looks to be answered as word filtered down Wednesday morning that Mission Pioneer QB Jacob Rosales would be transferring to Vela in the fall. Rosales has played at the varsity level since his freshman year and accounted for over 3,200 total yards as a junior. There’s no question that at least on paper, Edinburg Vela looks to be the team to beat in the Rio Grande Valley in Class 6A.
