About Texas A&M

It’s been quite the off-season for the Aggies. After finishing the year at 7-5, the team fired Kevin Sumlin – a move that was hinted well before the season even began – and made a splash on the coaching carousel by luring Jimbo Fisher away from Florida State with a monster 10-year, $75 million contract. Fisher signed 10 players in the early recruiting period and even though he won’t be coaching in the bowl game, it’s an opportunity for the Aggies to gain some more momentum before the next signing day in February. Texas A&M lost three of its last five games of the regular season, including a 45-21 loss to LSU in the regular season finale. The team will roll out Nick Starkel as the starting quarterback, which will give the redshirt freshman a chance to gain an edge on the competition going into the spring. The Aggies ranked seventh in the SEC in scoring offense (31 ppg) but gave up an average of 30 ppg.

About Wake Forest

The Demon Deacons are making their second consecutive bowl appearance under coach Dave Clawson and will look to end the year on another strong note after taking down Temple in the Military Bowl last season. After getting off to a 4-0 start to the season, Wake Forest lost three straight games before getting back on track with a win over Louisville. The team fell in a shootout to Notre Dame, but finished the year with wins in two of its last three. The Demon Deacons had the No. 3 ranked scoring offense in the ACC (33.7 ppg) but were in the middle of the pack defensively after allowing 26.3 ppg.

 Players to Watch

WR Christian Kirk (Texas A&M) – Kirk hasn’t had as many opportunities to excel in the passing game this season thanks to an inconsistent passing game and a rotating carousel of quarterbacks. But he is still a game breaker as both a receiver and return man and will be on the field despite the general consensus that he’ll enter the NFL draft. He has a team-high 730 receiving yards and seven touchdowns and has both a kickoff return and a punt return for a score.

QB John Wolford (Wake Forest) – The majority of Wake Forest’s offensive success has come through the air, as Wolford has thrown for 2,792 yards and 25 touchdowns this season. Greg Dortch (731 yards, 9 TDs) is his leading receiver on the perimeter that’s where the Demon Deacons will look to do their damage.
