Dallas Huston – Announcer, Brownwood

-

Inducted in 2025

When his voice returned following an automobile accident that caused traumatic damage to his vocal cords, the unique and now familiar voice of Dallas Huston emerged and is recognized across the State of Texas and beyond. Connecting several generations, Dallas Huston exemplifies the purpose of media communication through sports, bringing camaraderie and true athletic spirit to the fans. He spent 58 years calling Brownwood Lion games in football, basketball, and baseball. He was on the microphone for Howard Payne University sporting events for 57 years, including the undefeated Lady Jackets National Championship in 2008.

Dallas retired for health reasons in 2021.

He has received numerous honors and awards both in sports and in the community. He was inducted into the Big Country Athletic Hall of Fame, the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions, and the Howard Payne University Sports Hall of Fame. He was also conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities by Howard Payne University.

As a Howard Payne broadcaster, Huston was named Lone Star Conference Sportscaster of the Year four times. In 1999, Texas Monthly recognized him as the "best high school broadcaster" in the state. He was also the first recipient of the Dallas Huston Christ in the Media Award, established by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Honored by the Boy Scouts of America, Texas Trails Council, he was their 2015 Distinguished Citizen, as well as a recipient of the North Star Award.

Dallas will tell you he is one of the richest men in the world—not monetarily—but his riches lie in his relationship with Jesus Christ and the work the Lord has allowed him to do. He has shared the love of Jesus since 1988 and recently retired as pastor of Center City Baptist Church.

He continues to lead a weekly men's Bible study, serving on the Board of the Gordon Wood Hall of Champions, hosting a radio show Christians in the World of Sports, and writing a column, Out of the Box. Dallas and his wife, Linda, have four children, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
