Believe it or not, we're already at Week 6 of the Texas high school football season.

Plenty of teams have impressed the DCTX staff, but when it came to picking just one per classification, these stood out:

___

Class 6A: Southlake Carroll

The Dave Campbell's staff unanimous preseason Class 6A DII State Championship selection has somehow looked more impressive than we believed they'd be. The Dragons faced the projected second place (Euless Trinity) and third place (Byron Nelson) finishers in District 4-6A in back-to-back weeks and beat them by a combined score of 96-9. Quarterback Angelo Renda (Pitt commit) has completed 75 percent of his passes for 1,404 and 15 touchdowns behind one of the state's top offensive lines. Opponents are averaging 5.8 points per game.

Class 5A: Brenham

The Cubs were named preseason No.3 in Class 5A DII in large part because of star running back Jakoby Dixon, who rushed for 2,248 yards as a sophomore. Dixon's late offseason transfer could've derailed Brenham's season. Instead, the Cubs banded together to start 5-0. Senior wide receiver Chris Guidry is averaging 102.8 receiving yards per game with eight touchdowns, while sophomore running back CJ Glover has stepped in admirably (392 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on 8 yards per carry).

Class 4A: Midland Greenwood

Coach Bryan Hill says the Class of 2026 has flipped the culture of Midland Greenwood football. Two years ago, the Rangers were 0-5 with ten sophomore starters. Today, they're 5-0 for the first time since 2019 because of the senior experience on the roster. It starts with QB Lincoln Madrid, who most recently completed 17-of-20 passes for 369 yards and six touchdown passes in a 47-3 win over Pecos.

Class 3A: Tidehaven

Tidehaven had preseason buzz after returning 17 starters from a team that reached the state semifinals. They've lived up to the hype in a 5-0 start where the closest margin of victory was a 38-12 win over defending Class 2A DI State Champion Ganado. Quarterback Kale Russell, a four-year starter, now has a career 42-7 win/loss mark at the helm. The defense, led by senior defensive back TJ Galvan and senior middle linebacker Bryce Sliva, has allowed just 10.2 points per game.

Class 2A: Shiner

Shiner hasn't skipped a beat since reaching the Class 2A DII State Championship game, perhaps because the Comanches only lost four seniors from that squad. Quarterback Jarvis Williams has answered one of the few preseason questions about this team, completing an efficient 22-of-31 passes for 379 yards and 3 touchdowns, rushing for 7 touchdowns, and forcing 3 interceptions on defense. Quincy Jones has been Williams's top offensive weapon, with 579 scrimmage yards and 8 touchdowns. Linebacker Brody Popp leads the defense with 56 tackles.

Class 1A: Boys Ranch

Set aside the fact that Boys Ranch is one of the most unique programs in Texas high school football, the Roughriders are doing something pretty darn special in 2025. In just its second year playing six-man football, Boys Ranch has gone from 0-10 in 2024 to 4-1 to start the 2025 season, including the first 4-0 start in program history. Remember: this is a program that, not long ago, had the state's longest losing streak at 49 in a row; now, they're making their presence felt statewide.

Private School: Fort Worth All Saints

In what has been a wildly unpredictable season in the private school ranks, Aaron Beck's Saints have been the epitome of consistency. Starting the season with a 24-21 upset win over Parish Episcopal was one thing, but they've continued that steady drumbeat of excellence week in and week out. Quarterback Gavin Beard has emerged as a star, but it's the defense (which has notched 19 sacks on the season) that's got them thinking about a TAPPS Division II state title.
