Bastrop Cedar Creek (2-2)

In Year 1, Coach Jared Shaw led Bastrop Cedar Creek to its first win since the 2021 season. Now in Year 2, Shaw’s squad has won more games in one year than in any season since 2020. 

Senior running back Matthew Rodriguez is averaging 162 rushing yards per game behind a massive offensive line headlined by Roman Martinez, Refugio Miller, and Carlos Rosas, all over 250 pounds. 

Brazosport Exporters (4-0)

After making the playoffs every season from 2017-22, Brazosport fell on tough times, posting a 2-28 combined record over the last three years. But new head coach Justin Velasquez, formerly an assistant at Mesquite High, has the Exporters at 4-0.

Brazosport’s defense has been lights-out, pitching two shutouts and allowing just 4.75 points per game. While the senior leaders like linebacker Isaiah Calhoun, a reigning unanimous First Team All-District selection, lead the charge, a bevy of sophomores have stepped up in a big way. Luke Kucera leads the team in tackles, while Parker Pinckard’s four sacks are a team best.

Eustace Bulldogs (3-1)

Defensive coordinator Phillip Smith was promoted this offseason, becoming the fourth head coach in four seasons for a Eustace program that had gone 1-29 over the previous three years.

Smith may be a defensive mind, Eustace’s turnaround story revolves around the new spread offense. After averaging 9.5 points per game a year ago, the Bulldogs are averaging 41.74 points per game through four outings. Senior running back Donnie Bevis is rushing for 185 yards per game with 15 touchdowns.

Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles (2-1)

Last year, Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis snapped a 47-game losing streak. Now, the Eagles are 2-1 for the first time since 2019.

Diamond Hill-Jarvis built up their numbers enough to establish a sub-varsity football team last fall, and that experience is already paying dividends. The JV team won a district championship in 2025, and now a solid core of sophomores is making a huge impact.

La Joya Juarez-Lincoln Huskies (4-0)

Dave Campbell’s Texas Sports editor-in-chief, Greg Tepper, has already dubbed La Joya-Juarez Lincoln as the story of the 2026 Texas high school football season. After winning three games from 2018-25, the Huskies are 4-0 for the first time in school history. 

Junior linebacker Servando Castillo anchors a defense that’s surrendering just 13.75 points per game. He’s averaging 9.5 tackles per game with a fumble recovery.

Little Elm Lobos (3-0)

Little Elm entered the year on a 22-game losing streak, but with plenty of optimism after winning a state basketball championship. Turns out those good vibes were warranted, because Little Elm is now 3-0 for the first time since 2021. 

After losing four games by one score, Little Elm is learning how to win again. It always helps to have a dual-threat quarterback like Sash Suriya, who leads the team with just under 200 passing yards per game and 74 rushing yards per game.

Waxahachie Life Mustangs (3-0)

Larry Colvin, the former Frisco Heritage offensive coordinator, inherited a program on a 24-game losing streak. Even more shocking, he was the fourth head coach since the end of the 2024 season. But now, Waxahachie Life is 3-0, already with the most wins in a single season since 2019. 

Senior wide receiver Jeremiah White is averaging just under 100 yards receiving per game, the alpha on an offense averaging 39 points per game. Senior linebackers Christopher Merrell and Daylan Mathis are leading the Mustangs with over seven tackles per game.
