After an offseason that has featured 209 UIL 11-man head coaching changes, the final opening has been filled just days before the 2026 TXHSFB season kicks off on August 3.

Monte Alto, a 2A-Division I program in the Rio Grande Valley, has named Lyford offensive coordinator and head baseball coach Kevin Arredondo as the Blue Devils next athletic director and head football coach.

Coach Arrendondo has one of the state’s toughest tasks as just four days before the start of fall camp he inherits a program mired in a 54-game losing streak. Monte Alto’s last win came on November 7, 2019 when they closed the season with a 20-12 win over Banquete.
