The streak of at least two Texas high school football alums being selected in the first round of the NFL draft was extended to 18 years after Allen’s Jordan Tyson and Denison’s Jadarian Price heard their names called on Thursday night. The state of Texas has produced 90 first round picks since 2000. The 2008 NFL Draft was the last time only one player from Texas was selected.
Tyson was picked eighth by the New Orleans Saints while Price went 32nd to the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the last pick of the night.
Tyson was a three-star prospect during his time at Allen, ranking outside the Top 100 in Texas for every recruiting site. He played three years on the varsity level, spending his sophomore and senior season at Allen and his junior campaign at Frisco Independence. Tyson caught 80 passes for 1,512 yards and 12 touchdowns as a senior.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound wide receiver started his college career at Colorado in 2022, catching 22 passes for 470 yards and five total touchdowns as a freshman. He flourished in two seasons with Arizona State, helping the Sun Devils win the Big 12 and reach the College Football Playoff in 2024. Tyson was a Third-Team All-American and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year that season after hauling in 75 receptions for 1,101 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
Injury kept Tyson from topping those numbers as a junior in 2025. He recorded 61 receptions for 711 yards, and eight touchdowns in only nine games. Tyson is the seventh wide receiver from the state of Texas selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since 2020, joining Matthew Golden (2025), Jaxon Smith-Njigba (2023), Quentin Johnston (2023), Garrett Wilson (2022), Jaylen Waddle (2021), CeeDee Lamb (2020), and Jalen Reagor (2020).
Price was a four-star prospect in the 2022 class after compiling 4,990 yards and 55 touchdowns in 39 varsity games at Denison. He became an All-American at Notre Dame while sharing time in the backfield with Jeremiyah Love, who went third overall to the Arizona Cardinals. Price ran for 1,692 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging six yards a carry over 41 games with the Fighting Irish. He added 15 receptions for 162 yards and three scores out of the backfield and is a weapon as a kickoff returner.
Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey became the highest drafted Red Raider in the common draft era when the New York Jets took him with the second overall pick. The former Stanford transfer grew up in California, arriving in Lubbock ahead of the 2025 season. He was a First-Team All-American in lone season with Tech, racking up 52 tackles, including 19.5 for loss and 14.5 sacks.
Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion was taken 24th by the Cleveland Browns after a standout season with the Aggies. The North Carolina native caught 61 passes for 919 yards and nine touchdowns in his lone season in College Station, helping Mike Elko’s squad reach the College Football Playoff for the first time. He also returned two punts for touchdowns.
