Conroe ISD made it official on Tuesday hiring San Antonio Johnson offensive coordinator Michael Buro as the next head football coach at The Woodlands College Park. Buro, steps in to lead the Cavaliers after an 11-2 mark in 2025, their best season in school history and the Cavs first outright district title. He replaces Kyle Coats who departed in late February to take over as the head coach at Humble Atascocita.
Buro, a Brenham native where he played under now THSCA Assistant Executive Director Glen West has spent the past four seasons as the offensive coordinator at San Antonio Johnson under head coach T.P. Miller. Under Buro’s watch the Jags offense has been one of the best in San Antonio, as the Jags posted a 13-1 mark in 2025 and posted ten-win seasons in 2023 and 2024.
“Coach Miller is an outstanding person, I’ve been his right-hand man as he set out his vision to build a program. He does things the right way, does right by kids and coaches and he took a chance on me with his first head coaching job and never once questioned or doubted me, he just empowered me and gave me support and his help prepared me for this opportunity. He’s an outstanding coach and an even better person, so it’s bittersweet to leave,” said Buro.
Coach Buro started his coaching career as a student assistant at the University of Texas under Mack Brown’s leadership, he spent his first four seasons after graduation at his alma mater in Brenham before spending four seasons coaching WR’s and QB’s at powerhouse Austin Vandegrift before arriving at Johnson in 2022.
Buro says College Park and Conroe ISD checked a lot of boxes for him in his search for his first head coaching gig, “Obviously their recent success intrigued me and knowing what the community stands for and what they are about. There’s great kids coming through, we are a program that’s on the rise and has the capability to do special things. I think the tools are here with the kids and the support from campus and district administration,” said Buro.
The new Cavs head coach will start immediately at College Park and he says he’s planning on hitting the ground running, “I’ve got to meet with the kids first, it’s tough when a coach leaves and you’ve had success. So I’ve got to get in and build relationships with the kids, of course meet the coaching staff and let them know who I am and what my vision is. It’ll be a busy few weeks, but I’m so excited to get started,” said Buro.
