UIL REALIGNMENT: Most Intriguing 2A DI Storylines to Watch

Presented by:

Post a Region I Swing School: The tenor of Region I will likely be determined by the placement of Post. The Antelopes have played for a state title in 2019 and 2020 and were a regional finalist in 2024. Located south of Lubbock, Post has typically gone north in realignment, but this year there’s a chance the Bold Gold could shift southeast into an Abilene district or southwest into a Permian Basin district. Post’s placement will give a great idea of the Region I roadmap the next two years.

Dallas and East Texas Merge: In Region II, expect some sort of combo platter in District 8 where schools in Dallas County merge with schools in Navarro County and even into Smith County (Tyler area); we saw something similar last alignment where schools from Dallas went out to Price Carlisle and Frankston. With two charter schools likely moving down in this alignment, we could see an eight team loop.

Region IV Packs a Major Punch: Region IV is always tough. You’ve got perennial powerhouse Refugio, new and emerging power Ganado, and Mason leading the charge. You’ve also got some new firepower coming in from Division II to add to the depth. Granger, a 12-1 team a year ago, makes the move up. Shiner, which has played in the last two Division II title games, moves up as well. Both are likely going to be aligned into Region IV and that just adds to the overall firepower that exists in this region.
