Celina ISD announced Wednesday the retirement of athletic director and head football coach Bill Elliott, ending a 33-year tenure in the district, including the past 15 seasons serving in the dual role for the Bobcats.

Elliott led Celina to the 2024 Class 4A Division I state championship and compiled a 150–38 record as the Bobcats’ head coach. He also guided Celina to a state championship game appearance in 2015 and a state semifinal appearance in 2014. As an assistant coach at Celina, Elliott was part of seven additional state championship teams and one state finalist.

The final season of Elliott’s tenure was marred by off-the-field matters involving his son Caleb Elliott, a middle school coach in Celina ISD who faces multiple state and federal charges, including production and attempted production of child pornography and sexual exploitation of children.

Bill Elliott was placed on non-disciplinary leave by Celina ISD on October 25 following a recommendation from a third-party investigator hired by the district. The leave was related to concerns regarding a potential conflict of interest.

The retirement announcement comes just hours after Celina ISD released the results of its third-party investigation, which determined there was no evidence that Celina ISD employees knew of or ignored past misconduct allegations involving Caleb Elliott.

On the field, Celina posted a 14-1 record in its final season as a Class 4A program, advancing to the state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion Stephenville on a field goal as time expired. The 2026 season will mark a period of transition for Celina, as the Bobcats move up to Class 5A and do so under new leadership.

Assistant athletic director Kyle Sheridan will serve as interim athletic director until a permanent replacement is named.
