It was a big day for Melissa 2026 OT Max Wright (6'8, 310).
First, he helped lead the Cardinals to a 49-7 win over Anna on Friday to advance to the fourth round of the Texas high school football playoffs.
Later, Wright announced that he had flipped his commitment from Texas to SMU during the Longhorns’ game against Texas A&M.
Wright is rated a DCTX four-star and checks in at No. 50 overall in the 2026 DCTX Rising Hot 100.
He had officially visited SMU even while committed to Texas, and the Mustangs’ strong 2025 campaign — currently 8-3 overall and 6-1 in ACC play — strengthened their pitch in his recruitment.
Wright earned 4-5A Division II second-team all-district honors in 2024.
