The Most Improved Offenses of the 2026 TXHSFB Season

10. Brazosport (29.2 more points per game)

Current Computer Ranking: No. 30 in Class 4A DII (up 17 from preseason ranking)

New head coach Justin Velasquez has the Exporters rolling in a 5-0 start, an impressive feat at a program that had won just two games in the last three years combined. Velasquez has implemented a “Fast and Wide” spread offense with a quick tempo, but Brazosport is still a run-oriented team. Junior running back Carnell Hinton leads the team with over 102 yards per game. Brazosport begins district play after this week’s open date.

9. Eustace (29.7 more points per game)

Current Computer Ranking: No. 96 team in Class 3A DI (down 1 from preseason ranking)

At 3-2, Eustace has won as many games this season as they did from 2022-25 combined. They’re also averaging nearly 30 more points per game. Yet, Eustace has dropped one spot in the computer rankings since the preseason. The defense has allowed over 57 points in back-to-back losses, and the Bulldogs will have an uphill battle in an incredibly tough District 7-3A DI. But no matter how the season ends, new head coach Phillip Smith and the squad still deserve massive credit for a great start.

8. Universal City Randolph (30.2 more points per game)

Universal City Randolph had big questions about a young offensive line entering the year. But that unit has grown up fast and is paving the way for junior running back Isaiah Jones, who’s averaging 151 yards per game. Junior quarterback Bear Holt has been a revelation for the Ro-Hawks. He has six passing touchdowns to just one interception and is also second on the team with 95 rushing yards per game.

7. Vega (30.4 more points per game)

2025 points per game: 11.3
2026 points per game: 41.8

Current Computer Ranking: No. 51 team in Class 2A DII (up 29 from preseason ranking)

After making the playoffs in the first 10 years under coach Jason Porton, Vega missed out on the postseason in 2023-25. But Porton believed his team had the makeup to snap the streak with 16 returning starters. The Longhorns are on track to prove it with a 4-0 start. Senior running back Omar Segovia, a returning 1,000-yard rusher, already has 526 rushing yards, 127 receiving yards, and 10 total touchdowns. Cruce Cook has been an excellent change-of-pace back. Quarterback Kasyn Fetterman is playing like a poised veteran despite only being a sophomore, completing 40-of-65 passes for 775 yards and nine touchdowns. Fetterman is spreading the ball around to a plethora of receivers, including Caige Van Dyke, Colton Genn, Johnathon Snow, and Hallen Brorman.

Coach Fernando Rubalcava expected his team to improve with eight returning starters on each side of the ball. But an offense scoring 30.5 more points per game has to impress even him. The Bulldogs have put up 74 points and 52 points in back-to-back weeks. La Pryor begins district play against Center Point on Friday.

After five consecutive playoff appearances, Ingleside stumbled to a 2-8 record last fall with an incredibly young roster. But that rebuilding year is quickly paying off in 2026 with a 4-1 start. Junior quarterback Landon Younk has been one of the state’s most improved players, completing over 61 percent of his passes for 11 touchdowns and three interceptions. His top two receivers from a year ago, Julius Sierra and Jayden Techur, also returned – and have been even better. Senior running back Aaron Flores paces the ground game with nearly 115 yards per game.

4. Pettus (32.9 more points per game)

After back-to-back 1-9 seasons in the first two years of the Dan Garza era, Coach Garza’s War Eagles are off to a 4-1 start. Garza, the offensive play caller and head coach, believed his unit would be much improved with nine returning starters and a bevy of team speed. Now they’re averaging 32.9 more points per game. The defense has been excellent as well, pitching two shutouts.

3. D'Hanis (36.6 more points per game)

Even after back-to-back 4-6 seasons, D’Hanis had its eyes set on a district championship with 10 returning starters on each side of the ball. No one has stood out more than sophomore quarterback Evan Craft. The 6-foot, 160-pound signal-caller is averaging 293 yards per game with 28 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He’s also completing nearly 73 percent of his passes. Senior wide receivers Kase Braden (446 yards, 8 touchdowns) and Josiah Rodriguez (495 yards, 10 touchdowns) are one of the best wide receiver tandems in Class 2A.

2. Hebbronville (36.8 more points per game)

Coach R.J. Montalvo believed his team would be much improved in 2026 after going 4-6 with a roster full of freshmen and sophomores. But I wonder if even his rosiest outlook predicted a 5-0 start, a 36.8 points-per-game improvement, and a 58-spot rise from its preseason ranking. Hebbronville’s Slot-T offense has rushed for over 1,700 yards in five games. Eight players have recorded double-digit carries on the season, with junior Alexavier Gutierrez (438 yards, 9 touchdowns) leading the charge. 

1. Big Sandy (44 more points per game)

Through five games, the Big Sandy Wildcats are the most improved offense in Texas high school football. Big Sandy, one of the state’s most historic programs, went winless last season. But junior Jonathan Taylor moved from wide receiver to quarterback and is piloting an offense averaging 49.2 points per game. Fellow junior Evan Jitjaeng is averaging nearly 130 rushing yards per game and has added 16 rushing touchdowns. After an open date this week, the Wildcats will embark on district play.
