Notes: Texas Tech doesn't look as dominant as it did in the 2025 run but the Red Raiders remain undefeated after knocking off a bona fide Top 25 team in Houston.

3.Houston Cougars
Record: 2 - 1
Notes: The Cougars solidified themselves as Big 12 contenders in the two-point road loss to Texas Tech on Friday night. They were inches away from forcing overtime.

4.Texas A&M Aggies
Record: 2 - 1
Notes: Marcel Reed missed some easy throws and the Aggie run defense turned back into a pumpkin in an embarrassing home loss to Kentucky. Next up is a trip to LSU.

5.SMU Mustangs
Record: 2 - 1
Notes: The Mustangs went blow for blow with Louisville on the road in another early ACC test. This time, the mistakes cost SMU.

6.Baylor Bears
Record: 2 - 1
Notes: Nate Bennett has looked good and is 2-0 as a starting quarterback for the Bears. Big 12 play starts next week against Colorado and the hope is that D.J. Lagway returns.

Record: 2 - 1
Notes: TCU only led Arkansas State by seven at halftime and have struggled to run the ball consistently against both FBS opponents this year.

8.UTSA Roadrunners
Record: 2 - 1
Notes: UTSA is the only G6 team in Texas with a winning record through three weeks of the season.

9.Texas State Bobcats
Record: 1 - 2
Notes: Texas State needed a win against North Texas to avoid an 0-3 start and the Bobcats pulled away late thanks to Brad Jackson and an excellent run game.

10.North Texas Mean Green
Record: 1 - 2
Notes: The 1-2 record isn't impressive but the Mean Green have looked like a program that won't take long to return to American Conference contention under Neal Brown.

11.Sam Houston Bearkats
Record: 1 - 2
Notes: The Bearkats thumped Nicholls and are a couple of possessions away from a 3-0 start. This is a much improved team in Year 2 under Phil Longo.

12.Rice Owls

Notes: RB Quinton Jackson is out for the season and that puts a lot on QB Jacurri Brown. The Owls came up short at home against Western Michigan in Week 3 despite Brown's efforts.

Notes: Scotty Walden's group should get credit for putting a scare into Michigan for two quarters. Unfortunately for the Miners, the Wolverines woke up at halftime.
