Tyler Albert becomes Homecoming Hero in thriller over Austin Westlake

Football is the ultimate team sport, but Prosper’s 49-40 Homecoming win over Austin Westlake will forever be remembered as the Tyler Albert game.

Prosper’s senior quarterback, who had never started a varsity game until three weeks ago, entered the night as one of the state’s intriguing stories. The 5-foot-9, 185-pounder had seemingly emerged out of nowhere to lead Dallas-Fort Worth 6A quarterbacks with 11 passing touchdowns in his first two games. After 359 passing yards, 88 rushing yards, and seven total touchdowns against a Tony Salazar-coached Austin Westlake defense, Albert left the game firmly on the midseason player of the year watchlist. 

When Albert entered high school, the Prosper coaches admittedly didn’t think he’d ever start a varsity game. The coaching staff actually elevated another freshman to the JV program over Albert. But through hard work and dedication, Albert earned the backup role to record-setting quarterback Braeden Imhoff for two seasons, then finally became a starter as a senior. Albert is making the most of his opportunity, leading Prosper to an average of 51.7 points per game with 20 total touchdowns in three starts.

16-point underdog Round Rock beats Dripping Springs 35-25

Round Rock has made the playoffs in each of the last six seasons, but has not won a playoff game in that time. It feels like the Dragons are always good, but never great when they need it most. But Round Rock got a cathartic 35-25 win over Dripping Springs in Week 3, who entered the night as a two-touchdown favorite.

“We’ve had a lot of frustration that has been constant, like years and years of struggling in big games,” senior quarterback Dov Stickler told Jay Plotkin of the Austin 6A High School Sports Report. “We finally came out and performed. This whole week we’ve been talking about loyalty, and we finally did it for each other, and we played as a big team.”

Stickler (6-foot-4, 210), a reigning Second Team All-District selection, led Round Rock’s offense to 497 yards and threw four touchdown passes. Stickler spread the wealth, as both Simon Sylvain and Dylan Jaeger had near-career nights. Sylvain had five catches for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaeger, a TCU commit, caught three passes for 96 yards and a touchdown despite constant double-teams. The Dragons were far from one-dimensional, as RB Ryan Sirwaitis finished with 128 yards on 17 carries.

El Paso Eastlake's Offense Goes Nuclear in Upset Win over Midland Lee

Historically, West Texas powers like Midland Lee and Odessa Permian have dominated El Paso-area teams in non-district play and the postseason. But El Paso Eastlake got a win for Sun City with a 51-48 triumph over the Rebels, who entered the game as 11-point favorites. 

The Falcons’ high-flying offense put up video game numbers. Senior quarterback Julian Williams (6-foot-2, 170) completed 32-of-48 passes for 472 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. Williams got nearly every receiver involved, which was just as impressive as the stat line. Diego Diharce led all receivers with 10 catches for 214 yards and three touchdowns, but Albert Jones was not far behind with nine catches for 142 yards and a touchdown. Rene Ruiseco had six catches for 61 yards and a score, while Christian Wegmann had two touchdowns on four catches. 

In first year of 5A football, Fort Bend Crawford has already established itself as the team to beat in Region III

Fort Bend Crawford entered the year as one of the most intriguing teams moving up to Class 5A. The Chargers went 12-2 in just their second year of varsity football as a 4A team, and returned the District Overall MVP (Alvin Mosley), District Offensive MVP (QB Braylon Fisher), and District Defensive MVP (Camron Alakija). Fort Bend Crawford expected the move – the program is planning for an eventual jump to Class 6A with other Fort Bend schools – but statewide pundits wondered if they would experience any growing pains.

Not only does Fort Bend Crawford look ready for Class 5A, but it also looks like the team to beat in Class 5A DII Region III. In Week 1, the Chargers blew out La Porte 51-24, the preseason No. 8-ranked team in Class 5A DI. Last Friday was even more impressive: the Chargers went into The Reservation at Port Neches-Groves, one of the hardest places to play in the state, and beat the Indians 28-23.  

Ole Miss wide receiver commit Alvin Mosley continues to dominate, posting seven catches for 103 yards and a touchdown on PN-G’s secondary. Camron Alakija, a Louisiana commit, had 10 tackles and a tackle for loss against PN-G star running back Tyson Henry. But there have also been newer faces who’ve stepped up for Fort Bend Crawford this season. Jayce George was the bell cow with 19 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Wake Forest edge rusher commit Elijah Wright had eight tackles, a sack, and a pass breakup.

McAllen improves to 3-0, has not surrendered a point all season

Based on the scores alone, McAllen has enjoyed a perfect start to the 2026 season. The Bulldogs closed out district play with a 35-0 win over PSJA to improve to 3-0 on the year. Even more impressive, McHi has  allowed no points, posting a 136-0 scoring differential. 

The feat is a testament to McHi’s players buying into Coach Patrick Shelby’s program after losing a whopping 35 seniors, a large turnover for a Class 5A DI program. Senior safety Riley Ousley, the Preseason District Defensive MVP, has lived up to the hype with 11 tackles per game.

Blanco bounces back in a big way with upset win over Llano

I wish I could’ve been a fly on the goalposts for Blanco’s practices last week. After a shocking Week 2 loss to Salado that knocked them out of the state-ranked top 10 in Class 3A II, Blanco responded in a big way with a 39-34 upset over Llano, the No. 7-ranked team in Class 3A DI. 

Senior Eli Walker, an all-district quarterback in 2025, has excelled in his move to running back. Walker was the tip of the spear for Blanco’s Slot-T offense on Friday, rushing for 228 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught a 41-yard touchdown pass. Caden Spivey has stepped in nicely at quarterback, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing one touchdown. He also had 10 tackles from his safety spot on defense. 

Senior linebacker Rex Wisdom was the Defensive MVP for Blanco, racking up 10 tackles and three tackles for loss.

Weeks after tragedy, East Bernard moves to 3-0 with a win over preseason State Championship favorite Ganado

East Bernard was one of the state’s best stories a year ago, making a Cinderella run to the state semifinals after a 0-3 start. That playoff run included a game-winning kickoff return with a double-reverse and lateral against Poth, and an upset win over Tidehaven just a month after losing to the Tigers 59-6. 

But the adversity East Bernard faced last year pales in comparison to the tragedy they endured a week before the season began. Head coach Jeremy Jenkins and his wife, Brandy, were both killed in a car accident, leaving behind three sons – and an entire community in mourning. 

This town will take years to heal, but in the meantime, East Bernard’s football program is giving them something to rally around. Interim head coach Daniel Ball has led the Brahmas to a 3-0 start. An undefeated start under these circumstances would be impressive if East Bernard had played junior high teams. But they’ve taken down 3A DI power Edna 27-0, and just beat consensus Class 2A DI state championship pick Ganado 35-33.

In a life where everything divides us, East Bernard football is something everyone can get behind in 2026. 

Omaha Pewitt beats Daingerfield, in Daingerfield, for the first time since 1968

After leading Omaha Pewitt to a 7-4 record in his first season, head coach Jeremy Russell got a signature win when his Brahmas upset two-touchdown favorite Daingerfield on Thursday. 

In the same week he won Class 2A Built Ford Tough Player of the Week, senior RB/DE Wooda Betts put up an encore performance with 127 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns and a 78-yard kickoff return touchdown. He also had five tackles and two sacks on defense. Fellow senior Cade Nix also had a huge night with 151 rushing yards and a touchdown, a 61-yard receiving touchdown, and a 72-yard kickoff return touchdown.

24-point underdog Riesel blows out Frost 34-10

You couldn’t have scripted a better first win for new Riesel head coach Weston Bond. The Indians, 0-2 before last Friday, entered the night as 24-point underdogs to 2-0 Frost and left with a commanding 34-10 victory. 

Mason Summers, a freshman quarterback and safety, looked like a seasoned veteran, throwing for 108 yards and two touchdowns while leading Riesel with 11 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. Junior Haiden Kempton split time with Summers at quarterback and added 96 yards and a touchdown on just six carries.

Junior defensive end Maverick Adcock turned up the heat in Frost’s backfield, posting five tackles, four quarterback hurries, two pass breakups, and a sack. Linebacker Taygen Childers was the senior leader with six quarterback pressures, five tackles, and a rushing touchdown on offense.
