Texas State running back coach Barrick Nealy has left the program and will not coach for the Bobcats in 2026 as he pursue another opportunity outside of football. Nealy, who led Texas State to the semifinals of the 2005 FCS/Division I-AA Playoffs as a quarterback, was named the running back coach in San Marcos in 2024 after six years at UTEP.
Sources say that Texas State is starting a search for a new running backs coach and is expected to look outside the current staff. Most coaches are currently on vacation because early July is one of the only unaccounted for times on their calendars but expect the Bobcats to fill the position by the end of July and ahead of fall camp.
This wasn’t the first shakeup in the running back room for Texas State this offseason. Expected starter Greg Burrell was dismissed from the program in April after he was arrested by San Marcos police. Last year’s leading rusher, Lincoln Pare, ran out of eligibility after last season.
The names to know at running back for the Bobcats this season include Torrance Burgess Jr., Jaylen Jenkins, Taji Atkins, and Davian Jackson.
