Tulia Coach Steps Down One Year After Breaking 6-Year Playoff Drought

Tulia Hornets head coach Fred Jordan has stepped down from his role, he announced on social media Tuesday morning.

Jordan, who was hired in May 2024, helped Tulia break a six-season playoff drought in his first year at the helm. But a young team with four returning lettermen stumbled to a 2-8 record in 2025 and went winless in District 1-3A DII play.

Jordan is part of North Forney head coach Marcus Shavers' coaching tree, serving as an assistant for him at Lubbock Estacado and McKinney after wrapping up his playing career with Cisco Junior College and West Texas A&M.

Jordan's departure continues a trend of instability for Tulia, which has not had a head coach remain with the program for more than three seasons since Eric Wilson (1998-2009).

A correction was made on January 6, 2026: Tulia hasn't had a coach remain for more than three seasons since Eric Wilson, not two seasons as orginally stated. DCTF regrets this error.
