Matchup: Texas A&M vs. Auburn
Date: October 4th, 2025
Location: Kyle Field, College Station, Texas
Kickoff: 6:30 pm
Texas A&M improved to 4-0 last week by notching a 16-10 win against Auburn in a bit of a sloppy contest against the Tigers. Next up, Texas A&M welcomes a much-improved Mississippi State squad to Kyle Field for a nighttime SEC contest.
In Mississippi State, the Aggies face one of the most improved teams in the country. Last season, State went 2-10. Already this year, the Bulldogs have doubled their win total at 4-1. The lone loss for Mississippi State? Last week against Tennessee in overtime.
While the Texas A&M defense had its best performance of the season last week against Auburn, expect Mississippi State to test the Texas A&M defense much more. Fluff Bothwell and Davon Booth represent a massive challenge for the Aggie defense. While Auburn floundered in the rushing attack, the Bulldogs will test the discipline of Texas A&M’s defense, looking to take advantage of poor run fits or any failures to set the edge.
In the passing game, Blake Shapen represents a better arm than Jackson Arnold. Still, the Aggies ought to be able to generate pressure against an offensive line that has lapses at times and force Shapen to make mistakes. Tight end Seydou Traore represents a unique challenge for the second level of the Texas A&M defense, as the best at the position the Aggies have faced this year. Brenan Thompson represents the leading receiver in yards for Mississippi State, but I expect the Aggie secondary to limit him in this one.
Offensively, Aggie fans should be more worried about the Texas A&M offense hurting itself than what Mississippi State’s defense brings to the table. The drive-killing offensive penalties that prevented the Auburn game from turning into a blowout could be catastrophic against a Bulldog team that has an actual pulse offensively.
I haven’t seen anything defensively to suggest Mississippi State can stop this Texas A&M offense if it is firing on all cylinders. However, one interesting piece of the equation is the ability of the Bulldogs to buckle down when they get to the red zone and limit damage. Finishing off drives will be the difference between a comfortable game and Texas A&M sweating out another close result.
Ultimately, I think we see a better offensive performance from Texas A&M, while the defense comes back to Earth a little bit. Look for the Aggies to control this game from start to finish but expect Mississippi State to keep the final score respectable.
I’m looking at a final score of 35-24 in favor of the Aggies.
