Auburn transfer wide receiver Cam Coleman committed to Texas on Sunday, giving the Longhorns a pledge from the top-ranked player in the 2026 transfer portal. Coleman, a former five-star prospect in the 2024 class, caught 56 passes for 708 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore in 2025. He posted 37 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns as a true freshman in 2024. 

What makes Coleman’s numbers more impressive is the quarterback situation during his time at Auburn, which was laughable over the last two years under Hugh Freeze, who was fired during the 2025 season. Coleman, listed at 6-foot-4 and 201 pounds, is a physical specimen with track speed and an NFL future. He’ll instantly be the top target for QB Arch Manning. 

Steve Sarkisian is clearly changing directions in terms of roster building as a head coach. The Horns prioritized high school recruiting, development, and depth over the last few seasons. The 2026 transfer portal has indicated that Texas now wants to spend money only on players that can contribute in the upcoming season, minus a few exceptions like the offensive line. This comes on the heels of programs such as Indiana, Miami, Ole Miss, and Oregon reaching the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. 

Texas lacked weapons around Manning in 2025. Ryan Wingo, who will be WR2 for Texas in 2026, led the Longhorns with 54 receptions for 834 yards and seven touchdowns this past season. He was also a five-star prospect in the 2024 class alongside Coleman. The team’s next two leading receivers – Deandre Moore Jr. and Parker Livingstone – left in the transfer portal this cycle.
