East Bernard (2-0) at Ganado (2-0):
It’s a headline small school matchup in the Crossroads region as Class 3A Division II power East Bernard visits the No. 1 team in the state at the 2A-Division I level in Ganado.
East Bernard has started the season out very hot as the Brahmas put together a stunning defensive performance last week pitching a 27-0 shutout in a win over 3A-Division I Edna. EBHS held Edna to just 224 yards of offense and forced four turnovers in the victory.
The offensive performance wasn’t a thing of beauty as East Bernard only tallied 201 yards, but QB Max Mangum was solid in directing traffic as he had a touchdown pass and a touchdown on the ground.
Ganado took care of their second straight 3A opponent last week as the Indians knocked off Boling 27-12 in a game that was closer than expected. ATH Logan Bures led the charge with 127 yards on the ground and two scores, while QB Landyn Arriaga threw for 115 yards and a score, and added 53 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Both defensive units are playing outstanding football early on the season, so expect a hard-hitting low scoring game. Ganado has a few more weapons, specifically Bures and Arriaga, so look for that combo to make a big play or two down the stretch in what I expect to be a close game.
