DCTX five-star cornerback John Meredith III (6'2, 185) has officially signed with Texas and is now set to begin his college career in Austin after a turbulent final chapter to his high school career.

No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2027 class was ruled ineligible for varsity competition at North Crowley by the UIL State Executive Committee in June after a 3-2 vote upheld a district ruling that his transfer from Euless Trinity was for athletic purposes. Meredith remained eligible to return to the Trojans. 

The ruling effectively ended Meredith's TXHSFB career before he played a down for the Panthers

Sources indicate that he plans to enroll at UT in time for the Fall of 2026 after his final summer semester in high school. 

Meredith is considered one of the nation's most elite prospects and has established himself as one of the country's elite defenders. He committed to Texas over Texas A&M and Alabama, giving Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns one of the crown jewels of the 2027 (now 2026) recruiting cycle.

Scouting Report: His combination of length, physicality and instincts made him one of the most coveted defensive prospects in America. A boundary corner with the ability to eliminate one side of the field, Meredith routinely discouraged quarterbacks from throwing in his direction. When challenged, he consistently delivered, highlighted by an interception against elite national competition at the Under Armour Next All-America Game.
