Five stars. Five days. Five future faces of Texas football.
Welcome to "Five-Star Week," presented by Dick's Sporting Goods, where Dave Campbell's Texas Football will count down the top five players in the Class of 2027 with one five-star revealed each day.
The countdown begins with a name that already carries weight across the Lone Star State — Cooper Witten.
The Argyle Liberty Christian outside linebacker is the son of former Dallas Cowboys star Jason Witten, who is the current TE coach at Oklahoma. He was named the first five-star of 2027 on Sept. 3.
The Sooners are considered by many to be the leader in Cooper’s recruitment, alongside programs like Tennessee, Texas A&M and Ohio State.
Witten is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound defender with rare versatility and proven production. He’s lined up at safety, linebacker, and even contributed on offense, and that all-around athleticism shows up on film. He moves well in space, tracks the football naturally, and plays with a relentless motor.
Through three varsity seasons, he’s totaled more than 200 career tackles, including 87 as a junior in 2025. Witten offers 10.91 track speed at 220 pounds.
The athletic profile, the instincts, and the production all point to one of the more complete defensive prospects in the 2027 class nationally.
Scouting Report: Witten owns verified 10.91 track speed with advanced instincts and physicality. His background at safety shows up in coverage skills, now paired with downhill burst and finishing power. He’s also an explosive offensive weapon, underscoring rare athletic versatility that boosts his overall long-term linebacker projection. High-level production, leadership qualities, and a multi-sport pedigree cement him as one of the most complete and high-upside defenders in the 2027 class nationally.
