Multiple sources have confirmed to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football that Carroll ISD will promote defensive coordinator Lee Munn to head football coach of Southlake Carroll, pending board approval tonight.
Munn replaces Riley Dodge, who stepped down in December to coach tight ends at SMU.
Munn has been an integral part of the Dragons' success in recent years, joining Dodge’s staff in 2018 as Carroll’s defensive coordinator. His defenses haven’t always been loaded with FBS level talent like the Dragons' offense, but his units consistently remained among the best in DFW year after year.
Munn is technically 1-0 as a head coach, serving as Carroll's acting head coach in Jan. 2021 during the Dragons' state semifinal upset of Duncanville as Dodge was in Covid-19 isolation.
Munn, who played collegiately at Mary Hardin-Baylor, is part of the extensive UMHB coaching tree under legendary head coach Pete Fredenburg. That tree includes multiple head coaches across Texas, most notably Austin Westlake head coach Tony Salazar.
After his playing days ended, Munn got into coaching where he was a graduate assistant in Belton at UMHB. Munn’s first high school job was coaching linebackers at Marble Falls under Todd Dodge. Munn followed Dodge to Austin Westlake in 2014 where he coached linebackers and was the special teams coordinator. He was part of the Chaparrals staff that were the state runner-up in 2015.
Munn now takes over one of the nation’s most high-profile programs in Southlake Carroll where, despite losing a stellar senior class, expectations will be high once again in 2026. Carroll is 29-2 the past two seasons, including a state finals run in 2024 and a state semifinal appearance a year ago.
