The portal is technically closed and most of the top players who entered have found new homes for the 2026 season. We’re breaking down each of the 13 FBS portal classes across the state of Texas, continuing with UTSA. The Roadrunners are hoping a strong portal class and a core of returners can help them return to American Conference contention.
Overview
The transfer poral is rarely kind to G6 teams with talent and that is true for a Roadrunner program that lost its best wide receiver, two best tight ends, and the best players along the defensive line and in the secondary. UTSA did manage to hold onto quarterback Owen McCown and the nucleus of the offensive line to build around heading into 2026. Head coach Jeff Traylor added nearly 20 new faces through the portal to assist the program on returning to conference title contention.
Class Grade: B
Three Key Additions
RB Brandon High, Cal: The Spring native returns to UTSA after a one-year stop at Cal where he followed former Roadrunners running backs coach Julian Griffin to the West Coast. High started the opener against Oregon State but only finished with 98 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries in 2025. High rushed for 495 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns at UTSA in 2024 as a redshirt freshman and should immediately become an impact player in the backfield for the Roadrunners in 2026.
OLB Elijah Baldwin, UTEP: Baldwin is a 6-foot-7, 230-pound edger rusher who is originally from the San Antonio area. He committed to UTEP out of Jay High School and emerged as a force off the edge in Conference USA as a redshirt freshman in 2025 while recording five tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. UTSA needs its pass rush to improve in 2026 and adding Baldwin and players such as Dylan Spencer from Texas Tech should only help.
S Xavier Walton, Angelo State: Walton was an all-conference and All-Texas selection in 2025 at Division II Angelo State. He led the Rams with six interceptions from his safety spot and was second on the team with 68 tackles. He’s the type of playmaker at safety that the Roadrunners have lacked since Rashad Wisdom left. The 5-10, 200-pound Walton is another San Antonio native headed home to play for UTSA.
Two Sleepers
TE Brandon Young Jr., North Texas: The Roadrunners lost a pair of elite tight ends to the transfer portal in Houston Thomas (Texas A&M) and Patrick Overmyer (Houston). Young, who arrives from rival North Texas after Eric Morris left for Oklahoma State, is a solid pickup for the Roadrunners. He was primarily a special teams player for the Mean Green as a sophomore in 2025 but expect an expanded role as a junior at UTSA.
CB Nate Robinson, Marist: Robinson was a Freshman All-American at the FCS level in 2024 and backed that up with another stellar season in 2025. He registered four interceptions, 11 pass breakups, and 64 tackles as a sophomore in 2025. The competition will be a step up for him, but he should compete for a starting spot at one of the corner positions for the Roadrunners.
