Another high-profile job in DFW is open after Waxahachie's Shane Tolleson accepted the Denton Ryan head coaching position

Who are some candidates we’d call if we were the Waxahachie ISD Athletic Director?

Candidates listed in alphabetical order

___

Clint Fuller, Kilgore Head Coach: Fuller is a hard-nosed coach who has gotten the job done at Kilgore since taking over in 2021. He’s posted an impressive 60-13 record and led the Bulldogs to back-to-back 4A-Division I state title game appearances in 2024 and 2025. Kilgore has made it to the third-round or deeper in all five seasons he’s been at the helm. Fuller was also the defensive coordinator for two state title winning teams at Texarkana Pleasant Grove and he has DFW ties from his time in Frisco.

Eric Mims, Amarillo Palo Duro Head Coach: Mims has done what many thought was near impossible in his hometown as he’s turned the Dons back into a power after an impressive 10-2 campaign in 2025 and a district title. It’s been a slow build for Palo Duro as Mims got his alma mater into the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, but 2025 was the major break-through. It does appear Palo Duro is built to last and be very strong for the next few years, so it might be tough to get Mims away from his hometown, but he does have strong DFW ties and the chance to win a title could be enough to entice him to take a look.

Marcus Shavers, North Forney Head Coach: Shavers knows Waxahachie well as his Falcons have fallen to the Indians the past two seasons in the area playoffs. Shavers has proven he can win at multiple programs and win quickly, and time will be of the essence as Waxahachie’s current window to win a state championship is closing quickly with high school No. 2 opening in a little more than a year.

Casey Walraven, Alvarado Head Coach: Walraven has the most experience of this group as he’s been a head coach for 14 seasons, compiling a 99-58 overall record. He’s turned his alma mater Alvarado into a powerhouse with a 25-2 record the past two years and back-to-back regional final appearances behind one of the state’s most powerful offensive units. Walraven is known for his high-flying offense, which could pair well with Waxahachie’s defense often considered one of the state’s top units.

Lawrence Williams, Waxahachie Defensive Coordinator: Williams is the other qualified internal candidate. He has been on staff since 2022 and was elevated to defensive coordinator before the 2024 season. Williams does have head coaching experience as he spent five seasons in charge at Blooming Grove from 2014-2019.
