TCU quarterback Josh Hoover told ESPN that he intends to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2. Hoover, a Rockwall-Heath product, was one of the top quarterbacks in the Big 12 over the last two seasons as a full-time starter. He took over for the final six games of 2023 as a redshirt freshman and then blossomed under former offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, who is now the play caller at South Carolina. He was replaced by Gordon Sammis as offensive coordinator after a successful stint at UConn.

Hoover set a TCU record for passing yards in a season with 3,949 as a sophomore in 2024. He completed 66.5 percent of his passes and threw for 27 touchdowns that season. He started every game in 2025 as a junior, passing for 3,472 yards and 29 touchdowns. He leaves Fort Worth ranked four in career passing yards and passing touchdowns.

TCU has a chance to reach the nine-win mark for the second consecutive season if the Frogs can knock off USC in the upcoming Alamo Bowl. They’ll turn to senior Ken Seals or freshman Adam Schobel in that game and it is likely that head coach Sonny Dykes will go shopping for a starting quarterback from the transfer portalfor 2026.
