The 2024 schedule for new Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is a blessing. His Aggies don’t have an easy road in 2024 by any stretch, but the hardest stretches of the journey take place at Kyle Field in front of more than 100,000 yelling and hissing fans. Texas A&M figures to play four ranked teams this season – Notre Dame, Missouri, LSU, and Texas – and all four play in Aggieland. The SEC trips include Florida and Auburn.

TEXAS A&M AGGIES

2023 record: 7-6
2024 prediction: 8-4

BIGGEST GAME – vs. Texas on Nov. 30

No game in America matters more to their respective fan bases than the rekindling of the Texas A&M and Texas rivalry means to the Longhorn and Aggie faithful. College Station will be a SCENE two days after Thanksgiving when the long-time rivals meet for the first time as SEC opponents – and the first time at all in over a decade. The combatants on the field were in elementary when the rivalry went away, but the fans in the stands will remind them how much the game matters to the state of Texas.

TRAP GAME – at Auburn on Nov. 23

Texas A&M travels to Auburn a week before hosting the Longhorns. Calling any road game in the SEC might be a stretch, but it is fair to say that the Aggies could be distracted leading into that game with the Tigers because what is on deck. Especially if Texas A&M wins the games it is favored in and enters Week 12 with a 7-3 record or better. Auburn is still a year away because of its quarterback, so a healthy Aggies squad should be favored. The concern will be focus.

POTENTIAL UPSET – vs. Notre Dame on Aug. 31

The Fighting Irish might arrive in College Station for the Week 1 clash at Kyle Field as a Top 5 squad in the AP Poll. ESPN GameDay will also be in town. The Aggies are the underdogs, but not by much. Notre Dame is breaking in a new quarterback in Duke transfer Riley Leonard, who missed the spring while recovering from an injury he suffered during the 2023 season – when Elko was his head coach. The Wrecking Crew will know the strengths and weaknesses of the Notre Dame quarterback. Combine that with his lack of playing time with the offense and Texas A&M might be catching the Fighting Irish at the perfect time.
