DeSoto 2027 RB Sarod Baker (5-10, 195) has been named the newest DCTX four-star prospect in 2027 after a postseason run that vaulted him onto the national radar.
Baker’s breakout came during a dominant playoff stretch in which he rushed for 1,619 yards and 19 touchdowns over a six-game winning streak, culminating in DeSoto’s 55-27 victory over C.E. King in the 6A Division II state championship game at AT&T Stadium.
“I think he went about 15 straight games over 100 yards,” DeSoto head coach Claude Mathis said.
Baker consistently delivered in high-pressure moments, showcasing the patience, vision and burst that have established him as one of the top running backs in the country. His performance during the playoff run silenced doubters and sparked a wave of major recruiting interest.
Offers have followed on a weekly basis, with national powers Texas, Ohio State and Oregon joining an already strong list that includes TCU, SMU, Texas Tech and more.
Baker, who grew up studying the game of former Dallas Cowboys and Ohio State standout Ezekiel Elliott, drew high praise from Mathis during his postgame press conference inside AT&T Stadium, the same field where he once watched his idol play.
“I coached running backs. I played the game, and I coached it at the collegiate level, so I understand the position,” Mathis said. “When I first saw him, I knew he was going to be a great one.
“He also has great vision. That’s one of those things you can’t always teach; the ability to make somebody miss and see the field the way he does.”
As a junior, Baker rushed for 3,096 yards and 45 touchdowns.
