The Dave Campbell’s Friday Night Football Game of the Week heads back to the Houston area. This week we feature one of the first big games in the “SEC of TXHSFB” (District 17-6A) as Atascocita visits the Eastside to take on North Shore.

For a few years prior to the rise of Summer Creek and Sheldon King, this was THE rivalry in Houston, albeit was definitely one-sided as North Shore always found ways to knock off the Eagles.

This Atascocita team, led by first-year head coach Kyle Coats, is a bit different than past teams as the Eagles, much like North Shore, hang their hat on defense.

The Eagles opened district play last week with an easy 43-7 win over Humble. ATH Ayden Perkins lined up at QB, RB and WR and ended up with two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass, while WR Trenton Weary had a touchdown reception and returned his second kickoff for a touchdown.

The Eagles defense, which is absolutely loaded, held Humble to just one score with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

North Shore finally got a taste of a little home cooking last week as they had a short trip over to Crosby after back-to-back four hour-plus road trips, and the Mustangs took full advantage being rested with a dominant 58-0 win.

Ball security is still a concern for North Shore. After losing four fumbles in Week 3 against South Oak Cliff, the Mustangs had three fumbles last week, including an early fumble that gave Crosby great field position. The Mustangs’ special teams stepped up and blocked the field goal.

QB Javoris Taylor threw two touchdown passes and backup QB Darrell Haynes ran for two scores as the Mustangs spread the ball around at will.

Look for a low scoring game that will be very physical and that’s exactly how North Shore likes it. The Mustangs win a rock-fight.
