In a stunning letter to the community Thursday afternoon, Mart ISD announced the resignation of athletic director/head football coach Chris Lancaster after one season and one game leading the Panthers program.
Lancaster has a 53-68 overall record in 11 seasons plus one game as a head coach. He’s coached at multiple stops in Central Texas, including Bruceville-Eddy, Little River-Academy and Robinson. In his lone full season at Mart, he led a rebuilding Panthers squad to a 7-6 record and a trip to the regional semifinals.
In its letter to the Mart ISD community, the district thanked Lancaster for his time and leadership and named assistant coach Kyle Stone the interim athletic director/head football coach.
Mart dropped its season opener last week at home to Whitney, 40-0, and will travel to state-ranked Axtell on Friday for its second game of the 2026 season.
