Rockwall-Heath will be in the market for a new head coach after head coach Rodney Webb announced his resignation Thursday morning via social media, sources indicate Webb will be taking a job outside of the coaching world.

Webb, who was inducted into the THSCA Hall of Honor in 2025 has been an institution in Rockwall with stints as the head coach at Rockwall High from 2013-2019 and most recently he’s spent the past three seasons revitalizing the Rockwall-Heath program with trips to the area playoffs in two of his three years at the helm.

Coach Webb has a career head coaching record of 181-91 (Texas only), with head coaching stops at Royse City, Mesquite Horn, Rockwall, Denton Guyer and Rockwall-Heath. Webb spent the 2022 season as the athletic director at Highland Park as well.

The Garland native got his start as a head coach in Ruidoso, New Mexico back in 2000, before taking over as the head coach at Royse City. Coach Webb led the Bulldogs to a Class 3A state semifinal appearance in 2004 and led the Bulldogs to eleven wins in 2006 and 2007.

His name emerged as one of the state’s bright young coaches at that time and he vaulted to the Mesquite Horn job in 2008 where he continued his success guiding the Jaguars to a regional final appearance at the 6A level in 2010. Webb then in 2013 moved over to Rockwall, where he built the Yellow Jackets into one of the state’s most exciting teams. He led RHS to a 12-1 mark in 2014, a regional final appearance in 2015 and in 2019 he led Rockwall to a state semifinal appearance.

Webb then took over at Denton Guyer for two seasons where he did an outstanding job replacing John Walsh who built the Wildcats program, in two seasons leading the Wildcats he posted a 25-5 record and in 2021 he led Guyer to the state championship game where they fell to a generational Austin Westlake squad 40-21.

Webb after the one year in athletic administration at Highland Park returned to the sidelines in 2023 at Rockwall-Heath which at the time was a program in turmoil. Webb quickly stabilized things on and off the field and led the Hawks to an area round playoff appearance in 2023 and 2025, 2024 the Hawks posted a 4-6 record in an injury riddled season, but they remained competitive throughout that season.

Heath is the first major job opening post UIL Realignment and will without a doubt draw plenty of interest considering the location, good pay, outstanding facilities and Rockwall ISD’s solid reputation. Offensive coordinator Cody Moore is likely the strongest internal candidate considering his ties to Webb at Rockwall and Heath and his experience serving as Denton Braswell’s head coach from 2015-2022.
