SMU Commit Shows Out!
Yoakum four-star ATH X’Zavier Barnett (6'3, 185) was the clear difference-maker in the 3A Division I state title game, accounting for five touchdowns and earning DCTX All-Around MVP and Offensive MVP honors in the win, reaffirming why he is regarded as one of the top all-purpose players in Texas. The SMU commit was all smiles in his postgame interview with DCTX Coordinating Producer of Recruiting Mallory Hartley, saying he is going to be bringing “wins for y’all.”
Porter is a Top Name to Know in 2027
Newton 2027 RB K.J. Porter (5'9, 170) showed he belongs on the big stage with a strong performance in the state title game, finishing with 165 rushing yards and a clutch fourth-quarter touchdown reception that kept Newton within striking distance. It was a fitting close to a breakout season in which Porter topped 2,000 rushing yards and consistently served as the engine of the offense.
Porter runs with purpose, showing decisive cuts and quick acceleration that allow him to turn small creases into big gains. His compact, well-built frame and light feet translate to versatility, particularly as a pass-catching threat out of the backfield. With offers from Houston and Texas Tech, Porter has himself locked in as a future member of the 2027 DCTX Rising 100.
2029 RB Caps First-Year with a Ring
Yoakum 2029 RB Germarquis Robinson (5'9, 170) made an immediate impact in his freshman season, establishing himself as one of the program’s next high-end playmakers. Robinson showed steady growth throughout the season.
"I’m fast, I’m strong, and I can make people miss. Those are my biggest strengths," Robinson said.
The recruiting attention is already starting to build for Robinson. He earned his first college offer from UTSA, which he described as “a great feeling,” and has since added an offer from Texas State, a program he has already visited multiple times.
"I’ve been to watch a couple of their games. They’re pretty physical, and there’s a lot of support for Texas State in San Marcos."
Looking ahead, Robinson is still early in the process but already has a clear picture of what excites him on the recruiting trail. Oregon stands out as a dream offer, while in-state programs like Texas, Baylor, and SMU are schools he would welcome hearing from in-state.
